New Sidewalk Project: 19th Avenue NE
Thank you for visiting our online open house on the new sidewalk coming to 19th Avenue NE. Our feedback survey is now closed. However, you are always welcome to email Project Manager Zahid Khan with questions or comments: zkhan@shorelinewa.gov.

Project overview
The 19th Avenue NE Sidewalk Project will build a sidewalk on the west side of 19th Avenue NE between NE 196th Street and 244th Street (NE 205th Street). It will also improve the sidewalks and curb ramps at the major intersections between NE 196th Street and 244th Street SW (NE 205th Street).
Project location
Project design
We are still in the early stages of design, which means that changes can still happen to the layout of the sidewalk. We would need to make changes depending on things like underground utilities in the area, storm water pipes and drainage, and minimizing the number of trees we need to remove.
Here is an image of the early design. You can also view the design as a pdf.
Project benefits
Construction of this project was classified as a high priority based on the work completed to create the City’s Sidewalk Prioritization Plan. This project scored highly on safety needs due to previous collisions in the project area, a speed limit of 30, and a street classification of minor arterial.
19th Avenue NE provides a connection for residents to the Ballinger Way business area. This project will also provide a safe and accessible way for people to walk to bus stops and provides a connection to light rail.
Transportation is Shoreline’s largest source of emissions. In 2019, transportation accounted for 55% of total community-wide emissions. Most of these emissions come from gasoline use in passenger vehicles. Reducing community-wide driving is our top strategy for reducing emissions. Building sidewalks to provide better pedestrian access is a key piece of that work.
Project impacts
Street parking: In some segments of the street, we may have to remove street parking. We will have more information as we get farther along in the design process.
Trees: The scope of tree impacts is still being identified, but very early estimates are that 10 trees could be removed to complete this project. View the tree assessment of the project area.
