NE 200th Street & 25th Avenue NE Sidewalks

We're planning new sidewalks in the Ballinger Neighborhood. The new sidewalks will fill gaps in the existing sidewalk network near Cascade K-8 School and Brugger's Bog Park. This work will include adding curb ramps, drainage improvements, and connections to driveways.

Location

The sidewalks will be located:

• On the north side of NE 200th Street between 25th Avenue NE and the existing sidewalk at Cascade K-8 School
• On the north side of NE 200th Street between the existing sidewalk at Cascade K-8 School and the City’s eastern limits near 30th Avenue NE
• On the west side of 25th Avenue NE between NE 200th Street and Brugger’s Bog Park

NE 200th Street Sidewalk Improvements

Near the intersection of NE 200th Street and 25th Avenue NE, we will straighten out curve in the road. We will build a sidewalk on the north side of the road. On the corner, we'll build curb ramps and a crosswalk across 25th Avenue NE.

This work will remove most of the existing road shoulder and street parking on the south side of the street.

On the east side of NE 200th, we will continue the existing Cascade K-8 sidewalk to the City limits near 30th Avenue NE. To build the sidewalk in this area, we will need to make changes to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses parking lot. We will add four street parking spaces in the area, including one accessible parking space. We will also convert two existing spaces in the parking lot to accessible spaces. The sidewalk will tie in to the building's front entryway to allow accessible entry from the street parking into the building.

25th Avenue NE Improvements

We are still finalizing the funding for this portion of the project. If funding is not available, this work could be delayed to a future date.

We're planning a new sidewalk on the west side of 25th Avenue NE. It will connect to the sidewalks being built as part of the Brugger's Bog Park Improvements project. This will provide a safe connection for the neighborhood and Cascade K-8 families to access the park.

The new sidewalk will connect to the driveways and trail entrance on 25th Avenue NE. It will end at the driveway and sidewalk in front of the Islamic Center of Bosniaks property. We will build curb ramps and a crosswalk on that corner to connect to the new sidewalk on NE 200th Street.

Construction Impacts

Construction of this project may require us to fully close NE 200th Street or the intersection of NE 200th Street and 25th Avenue NE. Traffic changes will likely include detours, single-lane closures, and temporary construction barricades.

We will also need temporary access to some private property to connect driveways to the new sidewalks and complete other construction work. If your property is next to the new sidewalks, the City will reach out to you directly with more information.

Other potential impacts include noise from heavy machinery and dust.

We do not anticipate any night work.

We will mail a construction notification postcard to residents within 500 feet of the project before construction begins.

Tree impacts

We expect that this project may require the removal of 1 significant tree. We will work to protect 14 trees from construction impacts in the right of way and on adjacent private property. For additional information, please review the project's Arborist Report.
